Cameron Park Newcomers' Club
Full Description:
WHEN OUR CLUB STARTED
By
Charolotte Leipold
In 1979 Cameron Park consisted of a golf course, Airport, Samstown, a motel, Starven Marvins, gas station/mini/mart, Cameron Park Lake and the Palmer House, several Real Estate offices and there were 1600 residents.
Micqui Miller and I met for coffee and decided we were bored and we needed more coffees. By the 3rd meeting we had 9 people. Your club’s charter members. We decided to try and start a Cameron Park Newcomers Club. We drew up by laws and the Charter Members became the Board, I was temporary president for 6 months.
We put an ad in the local real estate flyer, for a coffee. We drew up 70 questionnaires for what people would like to have in our club.
Instead of the 20 to 30 people we expected 69 women showed up and we were running all over Cameron Park for cups and refreshment. Everyone signed up their homes. They signed up as volunteers to help and the club took off.
It’s been running ever since. The club has been successful thanks to all of you. I’m truly grateful for all the women who have helped and the friends we’ve made. You all have truly made “Cameron Park a Special Place to Live.”
